Traditional UsesIndigenous Australians have traditionally used various Nicotiana species, including wild tobaccos, for ceremonial purposes, as a stimulant (by chewing the leaves), and topically for pain relief (e.g., poultices for bites, stings, or sore muscles). Some species were also used as insect repellents. Due to its high toxicity, internal use is extremely dangerous.
